C.2.1. Seasonal Variations in Economic Impact

C.2.1. Seasonal variations in economic impact
C.2.1. Economic Pillar - Local Equity - Seasonal variations in economic impact

Why does this matter?

Tourism that operates during the low season helps create more stable and continuous economic benefits for local communities.

It helps to support jobs, businesses, and services throughout the year.

How is it calculated?

The score measures how many low-season months the tour operates in, compared with the total number of low-season months in that region.

It also considers whether the tour mainly operates during high season.

Seasonal classification is based on tourism accommodation occupancy data from INE and is determined relative to each region's peak tourism month.

The final result is evaluated based on specific qualitative operating periods to assign a score from 0 to 5.

What does it take into account?

The indicator evaluates whether the tour operates during months classified as low season in the region. Months are classified as:

  • • High season - occupancy above 80% of the region's peak
  • • Shoulder season - occupancy between 60% and 80% of the peak
  • • Low season - occupancy below 60% of the peak
