Why does this matter?
Supporting a diverse range of suppliers, especially small and micro local businesses, helps strengthen local economies and communities.
These businesses are often independent or family-run and play an important role in maintaining local economic resilience and diversity.
What does it take into account?
The indicator considers the size of the suppliers involved in the tour, assessing whether the tour relies mainly on large companies or on smaller local businesses.
How is it calculated?
Each supplier is counted and weighted by company size. Smaller businesses receive higher weights because they tend to generate stronger local economic benefits:
- • Micro businesses (<5 employees) → weight 1.00
- • Small businesses (5-9 employees) → weight 0.75
- • Small-medium businesses (10-29 employees) → weight 0.50
- • Medium businesses (30-49 employees) → weight 0.35
- • Large companies (250 employees) → weight 0.25
The final score combines the number of suppliers in each category with their respective weights to calculate a percentage that reflects how strongly the tour supports smaller businesses.
