A.1.1. Carbon Footprint

A.1.1. Carbon Footprint
A.1.1. Environmental Pillar - Environmental Performance

Why does this matter?

The carbon footprint quantifies the tour's impact on climate change by measuring greenhouse gas emissions.

How is it calculated?

It sums all emissions from transport, utilities, accommodation, meals, and materials. Then, divides this total by the number of tourists and by the number of days. Finally, assign a score from 0 to 5 based on the result.

What takes into account?

  • Transportation: Distance traveled x vehicle emission factor.
  • Utilities: Emissions from battery charging.
  • Accommodation: Nights x rooms x emission factor.
  • Meals: Number of meals x emission factor.
  • Materials: Weight of materials used x emission factor.
Benchmark: 20 kg CO2e (per day, per participant)

5. Excellent
10-14 kg
4. Very Good
14-18 kg
3. Good

2. Satisfactory

1. Poor
>26 kg
0. Very Poor
Very high efficiency

Emissions are far below the average for similar tours.

High efficiency

Emissions are clearly below the benchmark for similar tours.

Average efficiency

Emissions are close to the average for similar tours.

Below average efficiency

Emissions are slightly above the average for similar tours.

Low efficiency

Emissions are well above the average for similar tours.

Very low efficiency

Emissions are far above the sector average and require major improvement.
