We also offer a short version of this tour, where you cover on average 40 km a day, that is better suited for people that want more time to appreciate history and culture.

  1. Day1 Lisboa | Castelo Novo

    Transfer from Lisboa airport to Castelo Novo. Time to prepare your bike for the next days’ ride.
    Overnight in Castelo Novo.

  2. Day2 MB Tour 1: Castelo Novo | Idanha-a-Velha | Monsanto (62 km)

    On your first day of serious riding, you will connect two historical villages: Castelo Novo and Monsanto. Idanha-a-Velha, in the middle, is a very picturesque village. This is an easy stage with no big climbs… except the Roman path just before Monsanto.
    Short version: distance: 44 km
    Overnight in Monsanto.

  3. Day3 MB Tour 2: Monsanto | Sortelha (68 km)

    Sortelha is a Historical Village which dates back to the 12th Century. Its castle is a national monument. From the top of its promontory, you can glimpse all the country surrounding Idanha and the large properties of the area. Don’t expect big hills on this stage.

    Overnight in Sortelha.

  4. Day4 MB Tour 3: Sortelha | Castelo Mendo | Almeida (90 km)

    Today’s ride is very interesting; the surface varies a lot, with loose rock, roman cobblestone paths, and several river crossings. You will also have to do some serious climbs. The hardest one is just outside Almeida, after crossing a Roman bridge.
    Short version: distance: 43 km
    Overnight in Almeida.

  5. Day5 MB Tour 4: Almeida | Castelo Rodrigo | Marialva (72 km)

    Today’s ride takes you to the Douro River International Natural Park. The landscape is beautiful and you will be riding part of an ancient pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. On the way to Marialva, you will have to cross the Côa river – expect some serious climbing.

    Overnight in Marialva.

  6. Day6 MB Tour 5: Marialva | Linhares da Beira (65 km)

    Marialva is a medieval walled village that will take you back in time, to when the brave inhabitants of Marialva fought against the Spanish invaders. The final destination is Linhares da Beira, the capital of paragliding in Portugal. Linhares has a very interesting castle that is worth visiting. Rocky sections and ancient cobblestone paths are on today’s menu.

    Overnight in Linhares da Beira.

  7. Day7 MB Tour 6: Linhares da Beira | Piódão (88 km)

    Big climbs and long descents on a very hard day of mountain biking. You are riding near three mountains – Açor, Lousã, and Estrela. The terrain is rocky and tough. Fun! The final destination is Piódão.
    Short version: distance: 33 km
    Overnight in Piódão.

  8. Day8 MB Tour 7: Piódão | Castelo Novo (88 km)

    Back to Castelo Novo expect a pretty intense day of riding. Almost 90 km/ 55 mi with a lot of climbing and plenty of loose rocks. Great mountain biking!

  9. Day9 Castelo Novo | Lisboa

    Transfer from Castelo Novo to Lisboa.
