DESCRIPTION:

During these 7 days, you’ll visit the stunning coastline and the luxurious green forests of cryptomeria and green pastures in the interior of Terceira island in the Azores.
This is a cycling program around the island. Enjoy this self-guided cycling holidays in Terceira, known as the Lilac Isle, so called because of its captivating pastel sunsets, is a vibrant place of people, culture, and color. Cycle for 4 to 6 days with distances from 20km to 45 km each day.
The highlights along the way include landscapes of dramatic lava coastline and natural pools, visiting a volcano pit, locally produced wine tasting at the Museum, visiting a UNESCO World Heritage Town, riding along lush green sceneries, taking a trip out to see the whales and dolphins of course.

  1. Day1 Angra do Heroísmo

    Arrive at Lages Airport and transfer to Angra Heroismo.
    Briefing with A2Z guide including detailed information, route notes, maps and GPS tracks.
    Free time to enjoy the city, rich for its monuments and classified by UNESCO as World Heritage.
    Overnight at Angra do Heroísmo.

  2. Day2 Cycling Tour 1: From Angra do Heroísmo to Serra de Santa Bárbara (28 km)

    This course crosses rural ways along the coast, taking you to the interior of the island, dominated by dense forests of endemic vegetation that refer to the native forest of the archipelago.
    You´ll pass by Santa Bárbara Interpretation Center of the Natural Park, allowing the visitation of some volcanic landscapes such as Gruta de Natal and Furnas do Enxofre.
    Overnight at Angra do Heroísmo.

  3. Day3 Cycling Tour 2: Angra do Heroísmo to Serreta (22 km)

    Leave Angra in the morning and cycle in the beautiful coast, passing by small villages of S. Mateus, S.Bárbara, and Doze Ribeiras.
    Overnight at Serreta.

  4. Day4 Cycling Tour 3: Serreta to Praia da Vitória (46 km)

    Leave Serreta, cycle along the coast and stop at Biscoitos,  famous for its natural pools. You can enjoy swimming in of the largest natural pool in this region within black lava rocks.
    The next stop has to be Biscoitos Wine Museum where you can learn more about the wine process and taste a sample of locally produced wines that grow from the rich porous lava rock.  Then head to Praia da Vitoria.

  5. Day5 Cycling Tour 4: Praia da Vitória to the Center of the Island (47 km) or Free Day at Praia da Vitória

    Visit the volcanic pit  Algar do Carvão and the fumaroles, Furnas do Enxofre,  Gruta de Natal, Lagoa do Negro, Mistérios Negros, Lagoa das Patas, Centro Interpretação Sta Barbara. Picnic at Lagoa das Patas.

    If you decide to take a break from the bike, there are many activities you can enjoy from Praia da Vitoria: whale watching,  sea kayaking, swimming in the sandy beach, windsurfing, walking or even take in a round of golf.
    If you want to explore by bike you can go to Forte de Santa Catarina and  Porto Martins.
    Overnight at Praia da Vitória.

  6. Day6 Cycling Tour 5: Praia da Vitória to Angra do Heroísmo (30 km)

    This is a flat and easy tour, where you can visit Porto Martins and Porto Judeu. You´ll have the opportunity to observe the “Ilhéu das Cabras” until you get to the city of Angra do Heroísmo.
    Overnight at Angra do Heroísmo.

  7. Day7 Departure

    Transfer from Hotel to Lages airport.
