  3. Day3 2nd stage

Following a delicious breakfast – be sure to taste the little meat pies – we continue our biking trough the Alentejo.

Our journey for today will lead us to the UNESCO city of Évora. The outskirts of Évora, and especially the land immediately to the west of the city, make up the most diverse and monumental megalithic landscape in the Iberian Peninsula.

Such a variety and diversity is related to the area’s privileged location in terms of natural travelling routes, and along our cycling route we’ll be passing by the S. Brissos Dolmen Chapel, converted into a catholic chapel and still an object of reverence in case of major drought, and by the large Zambujeiro Dolmen, a funereal collective monument, probably one of the tallest in the world, with large granite supports that reach up to 6 meters in height.

Following another of our Chef’s unique picnics, we continue biking to Évora, a city with more than two millennia of history, with its narrow streets evoking memories of the Moorish presence, in sharp contrast to its squares, which are flooded with sunlight. Definitively conquered by the Romans in 59 BC, it took the name of “Liberalitas Julia”. Dating from this time is its first city hall, which established its original perimeter.

By the afternoon, you’ll have a chance to learn all about its secrets with a special guided tour.

For the next two nights, you’ll be staying at Convento do Espinheiro Luxury Collection Hotel & Spa, a XV Century Convent, home to around 30 monks from the order of Hieronymite, founded by St Jerome and later and used by the Portuguese Royal Family as a religious retreat. Make the most of this historical atmosphere. Tonight dinner will be at a typical restaurant in the city center.

  4. Day4 3rd stage

Enjoy your breakfast and then meet our team for another day of great cycling! Alentejo is a famous wine region known for producing high quality wines, with ancestral traditions related to wine and wineries and unique landscapes, so today we have scheduled a visit to one of the most famous wineries of Alentejo, which produces the limited-edition wine Pera Manca. But before, there’s still time to learn more about such a versatile product like cork, when biking trough, the cork forests and the traditional villages that survive thanks to this unique industry.

Get the rest of the day to enjoy all the amenities of the hotel, for tonight dinner will be held at Divinus, the convent’s ancient wine cellar. Make the most of it!

Accommodation: Convento do Espinheiro Luxury Collection Hotel & Spa.

    Stage: 52km

  5. Day5 4th stage

Today we say goodbye to Évora and our historical hotel.

Our bikes take us through the Alentejo plains, passing by Redondo a lovely small village in the heart of the region, famous for its pottery and quality top wine. Admire the typical white washed houses, with colored bands around doors and windows.

In Redondo, old techniques are still used to produce the traditional pottery and clay work, with flowers and naïf images of rural life. Our aim is to arrive to Vila Viçosa, known as the “Princess of the Alentejo”, a land of churches, monasteries, chapels, hermitages and convents. It is widely known for the abundance of marble in the region, extracted and exploited in more than 160 quarries. For the next two nights you’ll be staying at Alentejo Marmóris Hotel & Spa, a Unique Hotel in the world, a real museum dedicated to marble, being owned by a family that for generations has been working in this business. Relax in such a luxurious atmosphere.

Accommodation: Alentejo Marmóris Hotel & Spa.

    Stage: 53km

  6. Day6 5th stage

Following breakfast, the morning will be spent cycling around Vila Viçosa. Throughout the village you can observe the many small palaces and manor houses decorated with the traditional Marble, and the great Manueline inheritance present in many small architectonic and decorative details. Admire the XIII Century Castle, the beautiful Mother Church, the Agostinhos Church and Convent, the Santa Cruz, Capuchos, Esperança and Chagas Convents. By the Lucefecit Dam our Chef is waiting with a typical lunch. Make the most of such a relaxing moment. Pedaling back to tonight’s accommodation, it’s time to relax and enjoy the most of this modern atmosphere.
